Choosing My Text
April 9, 2008 by Neil
Some people have wondered how I decide which text or passage I will take as the starting point for my daily posting on this blog. Here is the answer.
The piece of Bible software I use for comparing a text in different versions and for searching the Scriptures is E-Sword, an amazing free program written and distributed by Rick Meyers. (You can read all about the program and download it for yourself by clicking here.) And one significant feature of the software — and the one I use in choosing my text or passage for the day — is that the program will, by default, choose a random text each time it is opened. Now I don’t necessarily want to have to confine my daily meditation to something like, let’s say, 1Chronicles 4.16 — “The sons of Jehallelel: Ziph, Ziphah, Tiria and Asarel” — but I am prepared to believe that God will have something to say in and through me from somewhere on the two open pages of my Bible which contain the text that E-Sword has selected for me … and, so far, that has indeed been the case.
